The Good Girls
In THE GOOD GIRLS series I look to portray the experience of being held back by the outer imposed expectations of being good. That expectation helped to create the Inner Good Girl. This is something that was very commonly expected of girls when I was growing up. Although we were expected to be good, behave, work hard, dress conservatively, consider the feelings of others - there were places where our deeper selves popped out.  And so individuality shows up in the girls’ bare feet and their delicately detailed faces. And there is a world of color, pattern and texture in their dresses.  I want to portray in the faces a depth, a concern, a reality of expression which reflects the contrast between how girls were perceived and how they experienced themselves as real people.
And always my love of color, detail and texture show up in the patterns of the girls’ dresses.
